Rod Smith

Banjo player and harmony singer Rod Smith is a veteran musician who has been playing the banjo since the age of 14 years old.  He has been playing for over 25 years, and prides himself in his timing, tone and originality.  He has already released his own solo project entitled “Drivin’ Time”.  His banjo playing has been compared to two of the best banjo players in bluegrass music, Terry Baucom and Sammy Shelor, which is not a comment to be taken lightly.  This statement is taken as a definite compliment by Rod, as he says that his grandfather Orison Smith and Terry Baucom were his major influences from the time he began playing the banjo.  He has played with some reputable bands such as The Timmy Cline Band, Bits and Pieces, Ernie Thacker & Route 23 and Dismal Pike. “Working off of each other”, he says, is the most important thing to being a successful band.  Rod and his wife, Sonja, make their home near Belfry, Kentucky.
